HARRY POTTER:
The Proud Man's Contumely - I liked this so much I made a cookie for it! Until J.K. brings out the next book, this is the fanwork I am treating as canon. Absolutely spot on when it comes to style and characterization. Set after Order of the Phoenix, I can't give you too many details without spoiling that book, so you'll just have to mosie on over and take a look for yourself.

Borderlines - This in depth tale well and truly eclipses the canon (which I love) by expanding both the characters and by creating a convoluted and detailed story. It doesn't dismiss the events of the canon (like a certain story by Wax Jis m) but uses it as a starting point for the story. After the alien queen is dead, the students get on with their lives. Casey goes to university where he gets into an emotionally abusive relationship. Roy dumps Casey in the worst possible manner, leaving Casey to have a complete breakdown. Casey them becomes emotionally dependant on Zeke, who, along with Casey's friend Sasha, try to help Casey get better and rebuild their lives. Sasha is one of the most engaging OC's I have ever come across, while Casey's instability is done both convincingly and compassionately. Zeke really shines out as an example of perfect characterization. There is no end of good to this story.
